Find a Bible verse reference: try a daily guessing game
Recognize the passage but cannot place it? Discover Quel verset ?, a free daily Bible verse game with five guesses, and learn how its color clues work.

A Bible passage sounds familiar, yet its location escapes you. Finding the book is a start; naming the chapter and verse takes more precise clues. Quel verset ? turns that search into a daily Bible verse game: read the passage and try to find its reference in five guesses.
It is a free solo game that runs in your browser. Visit the game page for the complete rules, or open today’s challenge. Here is a practical way to approach your first attempt.
What makes up a Bible reference?
A reference contains a book, a chapter and a verse number. Recognizing a theme does not always reveal that exact location: similar language or events can appear in different books. Look at the passage itself. Is it a story, a prayer, advice or a speaker addressing someone? Names and places can suggest a starting point, without proving your first guess is right.
If your real goal is to locate a forgotten text outside the game, use a Bible concordance or a search by words. Quel verset ? is a guessing game with a selected daily passage, rather than a search engine for any quotation you enter.

Five guesses and a fresh passage every day
The passage comes from the Louis Segond 1910 Bible. Choose a book and enter two digits for the chapter and two for the verse. Write 03 for chapter 3, for example. Target chapter and verse numbers range from 01 to 99.
Submit your guess to receive color feedback. Previous guesses stay visible, so you can compare them. Check your entry carefully: a chapter or verse that does not exist still uses an attempt. There is no countdown pressuring you while you decide.
Everyone receives the same challenge, renewed at midnight, Paris time. Your progress is saved in the browser you use; it is not synchronized across devices. After success or the fifth attempt, the reference is revealed, with a link to read the chapter.
Read the colors correctly
- Green: the book is correct, or a digit is in the correct position.
- Orange book: your choice belongs to the same family as the target book. The rules include the family list.
- Orange digit: it appears elsewhere among the four chapter and verse boxes. Orange does not mean the number is almost correct.
- Gray: the book belongs to another family, or the digit is absent or repeated more often than it appears in the answer.
An orange book in the Gospels family points you toward the other Gospels. An orange chapter digit might actually belong in the verse: all four positions are compared together. Each occurrence counts once, with correctly placed digits taking priority. Two identical digits can therefore receive different colors.
A useful routine for your first game
- Read before guessing. Use the passage to form a hypothesis about its book.
- Separate book and number clues. Book families and digit positions are different kinds of information.
- Keep what you have learned. Preserve green positions, reconsider orange digits and review earlier attempts before submitting again.
- Read the chapter afterward. The revealed reference can become a starting point for exploring the passage in context.
You can decide to play without outside help, then follow the chapter link at the end. Losing is simply part of the challenge. The game offers a small reading and deduction ritual, without claiming that five guesses measure your faith or your overall Bible knowledge.
